U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he will decide in the coming days whether to lift sanctions on Chinese oil companies that purchase Iranian oil. This consideration comes after the U.S. imposed sanctions earlier this year as part of a strategy to limit Iran's revenue, coinciding with rising tensions that led to conflict.

Among the affected entities is Hengli Petrochemical (Dalian) Refinery, one of China's largest, which was sanctioned for importing Iranian oil. The oil is typically transported to Chinese refineries using a covert network of tankers that employ deceptive methods to evade detection, including disabling tracking systems and using scrapped vessels for ship-to-ship transfers.

During a recent visit to China, Trump was asked about the sanctions and indicated that a decision would be forthcoming. His visit reportedly strengthened U.S.-China relations, although discussions did not cover chip export controls or U.S. access to rare earth minerals.

Additionally, Trump expressed dissatisfaction with Iran's progress towards a peace deal, emphasizing the need for guarantees regarding Iran's nuclear program suspension for 20 years. This situation is significant as it could impact global oil markets and U.S.-China relations, particularly in the context of ongoing geopolitical tensions
