Trump Expresses Affection for Inflation Amid Rising Consumer Prices

During a press briefing, President Donald Trump expressed a surprising fondness for inflation, stating, 'I love the inflation,' in response to the latest consumer price index (CPI) data showing an annual inflation rate of 4.2%, the highest in three years.

He attributed his optimism to a belief that inflation will decrease significantly once the U.S. conflict with Iran concludes, although his comments about 'taking' oil and ships were unclear.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright contradicted Trump's claims, stating he was unaware of the U.S. extracting millions of barrels from Iran, while noting that oil traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has increased recently. The CPI report also indicated that core inflation, which excludes food and energy prices, was at 2.9%, aligning with economists' expectations.

Trump's remarks come at a politically sensitive time, as rising consumer prices could jeopardize Republican chances in the upcoming elections, prompting criticism from Democratic leaders who highlighted the disconnect between Trump's comments and the struggles faced by everyday Americans
