On Friday, the U.S. Space Force announced a $4.16 billion contract with SpaceX for the Space-Based Advanced Moving Target Indicator (SB-AMTI) program, which will integrate space-based sensors and secure communications to improve tracking of airborne threats.

This initiative is part of the broader Golden Dome missile defense system, which aims to enhance the U.S. military's capabilities against potential missile threats. The SB-AMTI satellites are expected to be operational by 2028, addressing critical operational gaps in threat detection.

Additionally, earlier this week, SpaceX secured a $2.29 billion contract to develop a high-speed satellite communications network for military use. The overall budget for the Golden Dome program has increased to $185 billion, reflecting the urgency to advance space-based defense technologies.

This contract not only underscores the growing reliance on private aerospace companies for national security but also positions SpaceX favorably as it approaches its IPO, targeting a valuation exceeding $1.75 trillion
