Singapore has formalized agreements with Google and OpenAI aimed at bolstering its artificial intelligence landscape. The partnership with OpenAI includes a commitment of over 300 million Singapore dollars (approximately $234 million) to develop the local AI ecosystem, while Google focuses on addressing societal challenges and fostering an AI-ready workforce.
These initiatives were announced during the ATxSummit, emphasizing Singapore's ambition to be a neutral ground for AI development. The establishment of the OpenAI Singapore Applied AI Lab, the first outside the U.S., is expected to create over 200 jobs and support local partners in leveraging advanced AI technologies.
Additionally, Google's collaboration will involve training government researchers and educators, as well as exploring AI applications in healthcare. These moves align with Singapore's broader national AI strategy, which includes over 1 billion Singapore dollars in investments to enhance public AI research capabilities from 2025 to 2030, further solidifying its position in the global AI race
