SK Hynix Reports Record Second-Quarter Profit but Falls Short of Analysts' Expectations

In the second quarter, SK Hynix achieved a revenue of 79.32 trillion won ($54.55 billion) and an operating profit of 60.54 trillion won, both of which were below analysts' forecasts of 84 trillion won and 64 trillion won, respectively.

Despite this miss, the company's revenue surged 257% year-on-year, and operating profit increased nearly 557%, reflecting a significant demand boost from AI infrastructure investments. Compared to the previous quarter, revenue rose by 51% and operating profit by 61%.

Notably, SK Hynix's cumulative revenue for the first half of the year surpassed 100 trillion won for the first time, underscoring the strong market for AI-related products.

The company, a major supplier of memory chips for various hardware, including data centers and consumer electronics, has expanded its partnership with Nvidia through a multiyear deal valued at over $500 billion, which further emphasizes the growing importance of AI in driving its business growth
