In the second quarter, Samsung Electronics achieved an operating profit of 89.5 trillion won, exceeding the expected 88.13 trillion won, while revenue reached 171.5 trillion won, slightly below the anticipated 172.65 trillion won. This marks a staggering 1,814% increase in operating profit year-on-year and a 130% rise in revenue.
The company attributed its success to heightened demand for memory chips driven by artificial intelligence, particularly in the server market. Samsung's sales of DRAM and NAND chips hit all-time highs, bolstered by the introduction of HBM4 and the shipment of HBM4E samples to key clients.
Looking ahead, Samsung anticipates continued strong demand for memory products, particularly server DRAM and eSSDs, as AI infrastructure investments grow. Additionally, Samsung recently launched new foldable smartphones and expanded its collaboration with Broadcom, enhancing its technological capabilities.
In contrast, rival SK Hynix reported a record profit but fell short of analyst expectations, resulting in a nearly 10% drop in its shares, indicating a competitive landscape in the memory chip sector
