Samsung has participated in a $231 million funding round for Euclyd, a startup focused on developing AI chips with a different architecture than traditional GPUs.

This funding round, which also included Somerset Capital Partners, the Scaleup Europe Fund managed by EQT, and Innovation Industries, is part of a broader trend where companies are looking to create alternatives to Nvidia's graphic processing units, which have become essential for AI workloads.

Euclyd's CEO, Bernardo Kastrup, emphasized that their chip systems aim to reduce energy consumption and costs associated with AI data centers. The company plans to target enterprise customers with secure self-hosted AI inference solutions and intends to begin rolling out its chip systems by 2028.

The involvement of Samsung, a major player in memory manufacturing, could provide Euclyd with significant engineering and supply chain support, which may enhance its prospects in a competitive market where other tech giants like Google, AWS, and Meta are also developing their own AI chips
