This summer, yacht charters in the Mediterranean have seen a decline of 20% to 30% compared to last year, largely attributed to geopolitical conflicts, particularly the Iran war. Jonathan Beckett, CEO of Burgess, noted that while early bookings were strong, demand has since cooled, leading to a notable increase in last-minute bookings as clients seek discounts.
For instance, the 130-foot yacht 'Club M' is now offered at a reduced rate of 210,000 euros for the third week of July, down from 250,000 euros. Brokers like Kevin Merrigan from Northrop & Johnson have observed a surge in last-minute inquiries, although many clients find the yachts already booked.
Despite the current softness in demand, there is a notable interest in larger yachts over 70 meters, and bookings for September are reportedly higher than last year, suggesting that some consumers are postponing their vacations in anticipation of improved conditions in the Middle East
