Oracle's shares dropped following a Bloomberg report that the company sent a 'force majeure' notice related to its New Mexico data center project, known as Project Jupiter. This notice aims to shield Oracle from rising expenses and allows the company to potentially delay payments if the project does not meet its expected completion date in 2028.

Despite the setback, Oracle maintains that Project Jupiter remains on schedule and expressed confidence in its future. The developer involved, a unit of Blue Owl Capital, stated that the notice does not alter the financial commitments associated with the project.

However, the New Mexico data center has faced numerous challenges, including local opposition and environmental concerns, particularly ahead of the midterm elections. Additionally, Oracle's substantial debt of $18 billion linked to the data center is reportedly under stress, further complicating the company's financial outlook
