On Monday, OpenAI announced the expansion of its Daybreak cybersecurity initiative, which was first introduced in May. This initiative aims to equip participants with advanced AI capabilities to better defend against cyber threats.
The expansion introduces two access tiers: Daybreak Blue, which offers access to OpenAI's general-purpose models with modified safeguards for defensive work, and Daybreak Red, which provides access to specialized cybersecurity models for tasks such as security testing and vulnerability research.
Notably, Daybreak Red users will also gain access to a new AI model, GPT-5.6-Cyber, designed to enhance cybersecurity capabilities. This expansion comes in the wake of several cybersecurity incidents involving AI developers, prompting calls for stronger protections.
OpenAI has emphasized its commitment to working with governments and safety organizations to ensure responsible deployment of advanced AI capabilities, particularly in light of the evolving threat landscape
