Fidji Simo, OpenAI's product and business chief, announced her resignation to prioritize her health after struggling with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome since 2019. She has been on medical leave since April, during which Greg Brockman took over her responsibilities. Simo will transition to a part-time advisory role at OpenAI.
Her departure comes as OpenAI has confidentially filed for an IPO, although no timeline has been set for going public, with plans reportedly delayed until at least next year. Simo's previous experience includes leading Instacart through its IPO and holding significant roles at Meta, where she was head of Facebook.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed gratitude for her contributions and friendship, emphasizing the personal toll that health issues can take on executives in the tech industry
