Nvidia reported that its investment in SpaceX, consisting of 122.8 million Class A shares, was worth about $21 billion at the end of the second quarter. However, with SpaceX's stock closing at $140, down from $170.86 at the end of June, the current value of Nvidia's shares has decreased to approximately $17.2 billion.
This investment is Nvidia's second largest holding, following its stake in Intel, which is valued at around $22 billion, down from $30 billion at the end of the previous quarter. Nvidia's initial $5 billion investment in SpaceX was made less than a year ago, representing a significant return despite the recent decline.
Notably, Nvidia is the sixth largest investor in SpaceX, with Elon Musk holding the largest stake valued at about $850 billion. Musk has indicated that SpaceX will exclusively utilize Nvidia chips in its AI data centers, praising their architecture for AI model training and inference.
He also anticipates a substantial allocation of Nvidia's Vera Rubin GPUs for SpaceX next year, which could further solidify the partnership between the two companies
