Nintendo shares experienced a notable increase after the company reported that sales of 'Pokémon Pokopia' exceeded 5 million units within just four months of its launch on March 5.
This achievement positions the game as the second-best-selling title on the Switch 2, trailing only 'Mario Kart World.' Initially, 'Pokémon Pokopia' was not anticipated to be a major success, as it is a spin-off from the main Pokémon series, but its gameplay, which incorporates elements from the popular 'Animal Crossing,' has resonated with players.
Investors closely monitor game sales as they can significantly influence console shipments, especially since Nintendo has faced challenges, including a 34.4% year-on-year decline in Switch 2 console sales during the June quarter.
The company has adjusted its sales forecast for the Switch 2 to 16.5 million units for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, which is also a decrease from the previous year.
To maintain player engagement and attract new users, Nintendo announced expansion packs and updates for 'Pokémon Pokopia.' Despite a year-to-date decline of over 16% in stock value, Nintendo's shares have rebounded by more than 26% in the past month, fueled by optimism regarding future game releases, including a remake of 'The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time' and two new Pokémon games set for next year
