Meta Platforms (META) Triggers Bullish 'Golden Cross' Indicator as Shares Surge Nearly 18%

Meta Platforms' shares recently achieved a 'golden cross' when its 50-day moving average surpassed the 200-day moving average, a signal often interpreted by technical analysts as a sign of strengthening short-term momentum. As of October 6, the 50-day moving average stood at $630.87, while the 200-day was at $629.25. The stock closed at $738.88, reflecting an 18% increase over the past month.

This bullish indicator follows the launch of Muse, Meta's personal AI agent, which has garnered significant attention, becoming the most popular free app on Apple's App Store shortly after its release. Sam Rines from WisdomTree noted that Muse represents a tangible return on Meta's AI investments, which had previously raised investor skepticism.

Following this positive sentiment, Wells Fargo raised its price target for Meta from $796 to $1,000. Historically, Meta has experienced five previous golden crosses, with varying degrees of success. For instance, after the 2013 crossover, shares surged nearly 28% in three months, while the June 2020 crossover also led to a 26% increase.

However, not all instances resulted in sustained gains; the June 2018 crossover saw shares rise only 8% in the following month before declining. Investors should consider these historical patterns as they assess the potential implications of the current golden cross for Meta's stock performance
