Kalshi Traders Anticipate July Jobs Report to Fall Short of Economists' Predictions

08/03/2026, 09:38 AM business forecast

The Bureau of Labor Statistics is expected to release the July employment figures on Friday, with economists forecasting an addition of 85,000 jobs based on Dow Jones consensus estimates. However, traders on the prediction market platform Kalshi are more cautious, assigning only a 47% probability that job growth will exceed 80,000, while suggesting a 60% chance for growth above 70,000.

Interestingly, there is a 41% chance that the job additions could reach 90,000, but also a significant one-in-three chance that the number could fall below 60,000. This cautious sentiment follows last month's report, where Kalshi traders had predicted a stronger job growth of over 125,000, but the actual figure was only 57,000.

The divergence between trader expectations and economist forecasts highlights uncertainty in the labor market, which could influence broader economic conditions and investor sentiment
