Kalshi Partners with Alpaca to Expand International Access to Event Contracts

Kalshi, a prediction market platform, is collaborating with Alpaca, a brokerage and financial infrastructure startup, to make its event contracts accessible to a global audience. This partnership follows Alpaca's recent registration with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission as a U.S.-licensed futures commission merchant, allowing it to facilitate orders for derivatives contracts.

Tony Lee, Alpaca's chief brokerage officer, noted that the decision to enter prediction markets was driven by user demand for event contracts. The partnership is appealing to Kalshi due to Alpaca's reach, which includes over 300 financial institutions and 14 million brokerage accounts worldwide.

Max Crowley, Kalshi's vice president of business development, emphasized that Alpaca's technology will expedite the process of launching prediction markets in new regions once regulatory approvals are secured.

Both companies acknowledge that scaling Kalshi's event contracts internationally will take time, but Yoshi Yokokawa, co-founder and CEO of Alpaca, sees significant potential for new traders in the prediction market space. This partnership builds on Kalshi's previous efforts to expand internationally, including a collaboration with Canadian firm Wealthsimple.

Overall, this move could enhance Kalshi's position in the market and attract a new wave of users interested in event contracts
