A consortium led by Jeff Bezos has reached an agreement with Fenway Sports Group to purchase about one-third of Liverpool Football Club, valued at $7.1 billion. This deal is significant as it represents Bezos's initial investment in a sports team and underscores the increasing financial allure of premier sports franchises.
The largest portion of the investment comes from K5 Global, which contributed over $1 billion, with Bezos being the lead investor. The consortium, known as 1892 Holdings and managed by Amit Bhatia, includes notable figures such as Elaine and Eduardo Saverin, co-founder of Facebook. Bhatia will take on the role of vice chairman at Liverpool, while Bezos will not have a board seat.
The investment group aims to support Liverpool's long-term goals, aligning with the club's philosophy of sustainable growth and strategic decision-making. Liverpool FC is currently valued at $6 billion, making it one of the most valuable soccer clubs globally, and has a rich history with 20 league titles, the latest being in 2025
