The co-pilot of flydubai flight FZ1073, identified as Hammam al-Hammami, allegedly attempted a terrorist attack by attacking the pilot with a crash axe in an effort to take control of the aircraft. This incident, which occurred while the plane was en route from the UAE to Israel with over 170 passengers and crew, was characterized as a terrorist act by UAE Prosecutor General Hamad Saif Al Shamsi.
Fortunately, the situation was contained when passengers and crew subdued the co-pilot, and a reserve pilot managed to land the aircraft safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the motives behind the attack, with Israeli officials indicating that the co-pilot may have undergone radical Islamist indoctrination.
The incident has prompted a collaborative investigation between Israeli and Emirati authorities, highlighting the potential security risks for airlines operating in the region, especially those catering to Israeli travelers
