Boeing is divesting three subsidiaries—Wisk Aero, SkyGrid, and Insitu—to Archer Aviation in exchange for an undisclosed stake in the startup. This move aligns with Boeing's strategy to concentrate on its primary business areas, as emphasized by CEO Kelly Ortberg, who has stated the need for a leaner organization focused on commercial airplanes, defense, and space operations.
Wisk Aero is notable for its development of autonomous eVTOL technology, while SkyGrid is working on air traffic management systems for urban air mobility. Insitu, which manufactures high-altitude drones, will help Archer expand its military offerings. Archer's CEO Adam Goldstein highlighted that this acquisition is a significant step towards diversifying their platform and increasing revenue.
With Archer aiming for commercial eVTOL flights by late 2026 or early 2027, this deal positions both companies to capitalize on the growing urban air taxi market
