Blockchain.com has filed for two licenses with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to operate as a designated contract market (DCM) and a futures commission merchant (FCM). This move aims to allow the platform to offer event contracts and cryptocurrency derivatives to both retail and institutional customers in the U.S.

CEO Peter Smith emphasized the goal of providing users with a seamless experience in managing digital assets and trading derivatives. The company has previously ventured into prediction markets through a partnership with Polymarket and has been expanding its offerings internationally.

The push into prediction markets aligns with a broader trend among crypto exchanges, as competitors like Crypto.com and Gemini have also launched similar services. Blockchain.com is among 12 companies seeking DCM licenses this year, with the CFTC having approved six new DCMs in 2026.

Additionally, Blockchain.com is preparing for a public offering, having confidentially filed for an IPO targeting a valuation between $4 billion and $6 billion. This strategic expansion into regulated markets could enhance Blockchain.com's competitive edge and attract more users to its platform
