Binance to Cease Services for EU Clients Following License Application Failure

06/26/2026, 01:35 AM announcement

Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange by volume, has announced it will stop providing services to customers in the European Union starting next week due to its failure to secure a necessary license under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation.

The company's application for a bloc-wide license in Greece was unsuccessful, and it now plans to seek authorization in France, although any approval is expected to be delayed beyond the July 1 deadline. Customers in several EU countries, including Poland, Italy, Spain, and France, have been informed on how to withdraw their funds.

Binance has stated it will take steps to remain compliant and is optimistic about obtaining a license in the coming months. This development has prompted competitors like Bitpanda and OKX to emphasize their regulatory compliance and consumer protection, potentially positioning them favorably in the market.

Binance's regulatory troubles are compounded by its history of investigations and legal challenges, including a significant penalty of over $4.3 billion paid to U.S. authorities for money laundering and sanctions violations. The ongoing regulatory scrutiny and operational setbacks could undermine Binance's competitive edge and customer confidence in the long term
