Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon Faces Potential Succession as Analysts Prepare Questions

Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon faces scrutiny as analysts prepare to inquire about reports suggesting he may be succeeded by John Waldron, the bank's current president and COO, as early as next year. Should Waldron take over, Solomon is expected to remain as executive chairman temporarily to ensure a smooth transition.

Solomon, 64, has successfully steered Goldman back to stability following a challenging period marked by a failed consumer banking initiative. The bank has benefited from a resurgence in trading and deal-making, alongside the ongoing artificial intelligence boom, leading to its shares outperforming competitors over the past year.

Goldman's spokesman, Tony Fratto, emphasized that there is no set timeline for any leadership change. Both Solomon and Waldron received $80 bonuses in 2025 to incentivize their continued leadership through 2030
