Li Chenggang, China's international trade representative, emphasized the importance of cooperation among regional economies during the APEC trade ministers' meeting. He chaired the opening session in place of Commerce Minister Wang Wentao, who was unavailable due to urgent business. This meeting follows a significant diplomatic engagement between U.S.

President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, where China committed to purchasing its first major order of Boeing aircraft in nearly a decade and agreed to buy $17 billion worth of U.S. agricultural products annually through 2028.

Li noted that while APEC is not a negotiation platform, it should facilitate economic discussions and expedite the implementation of previously reached agreements.

The U.S. delegation is led by Ambassador Rick Switzer, highlighting the ongoing collaboration between the two nations within the APEC framework, which has evolved since its inception in 1989 to include 21 members, including China and Hong Kong
