Asia-Pacific markets exhibited mixed performance as investors awaited insights from a crucial meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, which could influence U.S.-China relations and global trade dynamics. Trump arrived in Beijing with notable U.S. executives, including Tesla's Elon Musk and Nvidia's Jensen Huang.

In market movements, Japan's Nikkei 225 increased by 0.27%, while the Topix index fell by 0.23%. South Korea's Kospi rose by 0.38%, and the Kosdaq saw a significant gain of 1.31%. Conversely, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 dipped by 0.16%. Futures for the Hong Kong Hang Seng index indicated a rise to 26,799, surpassing its previous close of 26,388.44.

Analysts from Goldman Sachs anticipate that the Trump-Xi discussions will concentrate on trade issues, particularly tariffs and export controls, rather than fundamentally altering bilateral relations. They suggested that China might agree to increase purchases of U.S. agricultural products, energy, and aircraft in return for avoiding additional tariff increases.

Goldman Sachs noted that while the meeting may not drastically change U.S.-China relations, it could provide a short-term boost to the Chinese yuan and equities.

The firm maintains a favorable outlook on Chinese assets, highlighting China's export competitiveness and what they consider an undervalued currency, and they recommend an overweight position in Chinese equities, especially mainland A-shares over Hong Kong-listed H-shares.

In the U.S., futures showed little movement, with S&P futures and Nasdaq 100 futures rising by 0.1% and 0.4%, respectively, while Dow Jones Industrial Average futures increased by 111 points, or nearly 0.3%.

On the previous trading day, the S&P 500 reached a new all-time high, climbing 0.58% to 7,444.25, and the Nasdaq rose by 1.2% to close at 26,402.34, both achieving new intraday and closing records. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, however, fell by 67.36 points, or 0.14%, finishing at 49,693.20.

This mixed performance reflects ongoing investor sentiment amidst fluctuating inflation reports and the tech sector's influence on market trends
