Amazon is set to host its annual Prime Day event for four days, maintaining the extended timeframe after positive results last year. The event, which began in 2015, is designed to mimic holiday shopping and boost membership in Amazon's $139-a-year loyalty program.
Jamil Ghani, Amazon's vice president of Prime, noted that the company will introduce daily limited-time deals to encourage shoppers to return throughout the event. However, the backdrop of declining consumer sentiment, driven by rising oil prices and economic uncertainty, poses challenges.
This year, promotions will emphasize groceries and household essentials, with items like produce and meats priced as low as $1. Ghani acknowledged that consumers are increasingly prioritizing utility items over luxury purchases, reflecting a shift in spending habits due to financial pressures
