UAW Union Strike Disrupts Production of General Motors Pickup Truck Parts

Workers at Dauch Corp., a supplier for General Motors, initiated a strike after failing to secure a new contract, with the United Auto Workers union emphasizing the need to restore wages that were significantly reduced during the Great Recession.

UAW President Shawn Fain stated that the union would remain on strike until a satisfactory agreement is reached, indicating strong union support for the workers. Historically, wages for long-term employees have dropped from $29 an hour to $14.50 in 2008, with current wages capped at $22 an hour after a five-year progression.

Dauch Corp. expressed disappointment over the strike and reiterated its commitment to negotiating in good faith. GM is monitoring the situation closely but reported that production at its plants continues as normal for now.

The affected plant produces axles for several GM truck models, and a union representative noted that GM has approximately two weeks' worth of axles in stock, suggesting that the impact on production may not be immediate but could escalate if the strike continues
