During the APEC trade ministers' meeting in Suzhou, Casey K. Mace, a senior official for APEC and economic policy, emphasized the U.S. commitment to promoting American AI solutions in Asia. This comes as the U.S. has restricted Chinese access to advanced chips, while China has already banned major U.S. tech firms like Google and Facebook.

Mace noted that U.S. tech companies would participate in workshops at an upcoming APEC 'digital week' in Chengdu, aiming to engage with all 21 APEC economies. He mentioned positive discussions around U.S. AI applications in various sectors, including food traceability and biotech, and highlighted the recent successful meeting between Presidents Trump and Xi as a catalyst for these developments.

Ryan Fedasiuk from the American Enterprise Institute pointed out the competitive landscape, where U.S. efforts will face challenges from Chinese tech firms. He also raised concerns about the need for coordination between the U.S. and China to manage risks associated with AI and biotechnology, particularly in preventing future pandemics
