Nvidia Announces $150 Billion Investment Plan in Taiwan, Boosting Local Chip Stocks

Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang revealed plans for a substantial expansion in Taiwan, increasing annual spending from $10-15 billion to $150 billion. This investment will support the construction of a new office complex, Constellation, which will house 4,000 employees by 2030, quadrupling Nvidia's current workforce in Taiwan.

The announcement contributed to a 1.7% rise in Taiwan's Taiex stock index, with notable gains in semiconductor stocks such as TSMC, MediaTek, and Delta Electronics. Nvidia's revenue from Taiwan surged over 50% year-over-year, contrasting with a significant decline in revenue from mainland China and Hong Kong.

This shift highlights Nvidia's strategic pivot towards Taiwan amid regulatory challenges in China. The company's anticipated spending in Taiwan is expected to exceed its quarterly revenue, which was reported at $81.6 billion for the quarter ending April 26, with a forecast of $91 billion for the current quarter.

Huang emphasized the transformative potential of AI in manufacturing, positioning Taiwan as a critical hub for this technological revolution
