Stellantis Launches Ram Brand’s 'Muscle Trucks' Lineup Featuring Hemi V-8 Engines Amid High Gas Prices

Stellantis has announced the introduction of its Rumble Bee muscle trucks, which will be equipped with powerful V-8 engines, including a top-end SRT Hellcat model boasting 777 horsepower and a top speed of 170 mph.

Ram's chief, Tim Kuniskis, emphasized the strategic timing of this launch, arguing that the full-size pickup market has evolved into luxury and off-road segments, and there is a gap in traditional muscle car offerings as manufacturers pivot towards electric vehicles.

Despite the average gas price of $4.56 per gallon, Kuniskis is optimistic that consumer sentiment will shift by the time these trucks hit showrooms. The muscle trucks are expected to be profitable, with high-performance models typically yielding three times the margin of average vehicles.

While specific sales volume expectations were not disclosed, analysts like Stephanie Brinley from S&P Global suggest that these trucks may not sell in large numbers but will serve to enhance brand visibility and retain existing customers. The trucks will be manufactured in Saltillo, Mexico, with the first model expected to launch later this year.

This announcement coincides with Stellantis' investor day, where the company aims to outline its strategy for returning to profitability after a significant net loss last year. Kuniskis noted that while performance trucks have a history of being short-lived, he believes the current strategy is better aligned for success
